$$The Secrets of Hindu worship: the Role of Mantra, Tantra and Yantra. HOW TO USE MANTRA TANTRA.$$
Be it a complicated form of vedic ritual such a yajna or some simple form of worship performed ordinarily in millions of Hindu households everyday, the process of worship in Hinduism invariably involves the use of three basic techniques, namely the mantra, the tantra and the yantra. Symbolically, they represent the three basic spiritual paths of Hinduism, made hugely popular by the teachings of Sri Vasudeva Krishna in the famous Bhagavad gita. The mantra symbolically represents the use of Jnanamarg, the path of knowledge, the tantra of Bhaktimarg, the path of devotion, and the yantra of Karmasanyasmarg or the path of detached action. Unless these three are present in some form or combination, the worship is incomplete. The Use of Mantra A mantra is an invocation, containing a sacred syllable or set of syllables. When a mantra is uttered with specific rhythm, with sincerity of devotion and purity of thought and action, and with phonetic and grammatical accuracy, in a manner prescribed by the scriptural injunctions of the Vedas or some authoritative scripture, it is believed to invoke a particular deity and compel the deity to assist the invoker to achieve a desired end. It is interesting to note that according to Hindu beliefs, if a mantra is pronounced correctly the deity to whom it is addressed has no choice but to respond to the invoker automatically and help him. When a complicated ritual such as a soma sacrifice or some other yajna is performed, not one but many deities are invoked simultaneously by groups of priests chanting various mantras. Their chanting creates the necessary vibrations in the atmosphere to awaken the deities and facilitates their descent to the place of worship. The sound that is generated by the chanting of the mantras is very important, but is is not the only requirement for the yajna to be successful. The remaining requirements are the appropriate use of tantra and yantra, which will be explained later. It is believed that hidden in each mantra is the energy of a particular deity which remains normally latent, but becomes active the moment the mantra is pronounced accurately in the manner prescribed by the shastras. The divinity awakens only if the vibrations generated by the chanting matches with its basic frequency. Besides this, as we have already noted, the appropriate use of tantra and yantra must fit in the overall purpose of the worship and remain in harmony with the expectations of the divinity to whom they are directed.
The Use of Tantra Tantra is the systematic use of the body and the mind as the physical instruments of divine realization. The body and the mind constitute the lower self and together they aim to indulge in the desire oriented actions of the lower self to perpetuate the interplay of the triple gunas, namely, sattva, rajas and tamas. Primarily, they are the chief instruments of the divine Prakriti, otherwise called Maya, and they play their dutiful roles quite efficiently and effectively and succeed mostly in keeping the soul chained to the earth and go through the ordeal of births and deaths by the inexorable law of karma. Tantra aims to liberate and transform these two so as to make them the true instruments of the hidden self. It aims to bring them in tune with the aspirations of the hidden self and make them Its partners in progress. Hindu scriptures declare unequivocally that transformation of the body and the mind is the most difficult part of ones spiritual journey and that most of our difficulties on the path come because of our inability to deal with this problem successfully. Tantra is therefore a very important and integral part of Hindu spiritualism and equally maintains its place in the ritual part of the religion. Tantra is not for Tantrics only There is a misconception among many that tantra is used by Tantrics only through the medium of sex and other objectionable means. This is not true. Tantra is used in every aspect of Hindu worship. What we see in Tantricism is an extreme form of tantra where the body and the mind are allowed to express themselves freely under the supervision of an enlightened master to come to terms with them and achieve complete mastery over them. But tantra in its milder and normal forms can be seen in action in everyday life. For example the Yoga of Patanjali, is a kind of tantra only, where we aim to achieve bodily control through certain physical postures and mind control techniques. The simple use of tantra in an ordinary householder's regular worship include the use of certain bodily postures like prostrating before the deity, the lotus position, the folding of hands in front of the deity, purification of the body through fasting and bathing, concentration of the mind on the image, breathing practices, thought control through inner detachment, detachment of the body and the mind through devotion and so on. In pure devotional forms of worship, the body and the mind are offered to God as an act of supreme sacrifice and inner detachment, thereby allowing the divine forces to descend and do their work of inner purification and transformation. In a complicated vedic ritual also we can see the use of tantra more or less in a similar manner. A vedic ritual bears no fruit if the body and mind of the performer are not geared to participate in the ritual with the required degree of purity and sincerity. All the chanting of the mantras comes to naught and the divinity or the divinities would remain inactive if these two are not in harmony with the objective of the entire ritual. A Hotr priest or an Adhvaryu priest have to maintain utmost purity and observe certain discipline before performing the rituals.
The Use of Yantra Yantra is the use of certain external objects, symbols or some mechanical means to worship the divine. The act of folding of hands in front of the deity is but a kind of yantra only. The manner in which a fireplace is built for the performance of some vedic sacrifice, the method in which the place is prepared and the materials (sambhra) are assembled, the manner in which the oblations are poured into the fire, the way the priests sit around the altar, and in fact the very act of chanting of the mantras with mechanical precision form part of yantric worship only. The very design of the temple as an outer symbol of the existence of the Divine on the material plane, the act of visiting the temple, circling around the temple, entering the temple, the lighting of the lamps in front of the divine, the decorations and the ornamentation so characteristic of hindu temples and places of worship, the manner in which the images are built and installed, the lighting of the lamps, the offerings, the method of worship, the partaking of prasad, and in short any practice that is mechanical, symbolic and ritualistic to a degree, form part of this approach only. Hindu Worship, a Means to Evolution Thus we can see that the Hindu way of worship is not a mere superstitious ritual, but a complicated form of divine worship in which higher universal forces are invoked to assist man in his spiritual and material progress. A science as well as an art, it aims not just to achieve some specific end but through the process of integration of the body, the mind and the spirit, the very evolution of man into a higher being.
Shri Yantra Mandala Meditation Power
How to Use the Shri Yantra MandalaThe secret key to using Yantras in meditation is Resonance. The process of Resonance is established by mental focus on the image of the Yantra. As long as the mind is tuned into the specific mood associated to that Yantra, the energy flows, but when the Resonance is stopped, the energy disappears. Instructions for Shri Yantra Mandala meditation:(Can be done with any Yantra) 1. Hang the Shri Yantra mandala on a wall facing North or East, placing the center of the Yantra at the level of your eyes. 2. Adopt your favorite posture or, if you want, sit on a chair maintaining a straight spine. 3. Breath in through the nose and out through the mouth, but do not force at all, just let the breath flow normally.
4. Look into the center of the Yantra, trying to blink as rarely as possible; you don't want to look at the particular details of the Yantra, just keep your sight right in the center and observe the whole Yantra at once.
This exercise should last at least 15-30 minutes every day; the experience will be indescribable. After at least seven days of Shri Yantra Mandala meditation you will be able to tap into the same yantric energy even without a Yantra (at the beginning you may fix your sight on an exterior or imaginary point or evoke the Yantra with your eyes closed) When executing this technique it is recommended that we maintain a state of aspiration and intense longing for experiencing the beatific energies of the consciousness. In superior phases the shri Yantra Mandala absorbs the practitioner's complete attention, and he can no longer tell if the Yantra is within himself or if he is within the Yantra; this is the state of nonduality.
How to Use the Yantras Power
How to use the Yantras? A Yantra is a very complex spiritual instrument that can calm and focus the activities of the mind, and by its positive auto suggestion it has a benefic impact on the health and psychic well being of a person. Follow these steps and guidelines when you start using the Yantra for the first time:- Step 1. First of all, in the morning of the prescribed day, fresh your body (take a bath) and make a clear and positive mind frame. Step 2. Find a place where you will be undisturbed. Sit down facing east in a position in which you feel most comfortable. Step 3. Take the long deep breath for 5 to 10 minutes and concentrate on your breath (or do some other meditation exercise if you know). Step 4. Now pick up the Yantra which seems suitable to you, in your hands and close your eyes and Offer a prayer to God, in whatever way you relate to God. Ask for God's blessing in accomplishing your objective in doing this discipline in your own language. Step 5. Now start using Yantra in a way, which is suitable to you: If it is a locket Yantra, you can wear it in a Black/Red thread or in a Silver/Gold chain. If it is a large size, you can establish the Yantra in your room/office/shop etc. You can frame it, if you like and hang on the wall of your room / office / shop etc. If it is a pocket size, you may keep the Yantra in your front pocket of your shirt or in your wallet. If it is 3D Yantra (e.g. Crystal Shri Yantra), place it on a suitable place. P.S. - Repeat steps 3 and 4 for more then 40 days, if possible. Is it necessary for one to chant the associate mantras of the Yantras? We don't recommend our users to chant the Beej Mantra of the particular Yantra. We send Pranapratishthit (energized) Yantras to our users because the chanting a Mantra is a very difficult task as there are many prescribed steps and rituals that have to be followed exactly. It is a very typical work and it needs a lot of concentration, will power, special voice modulations in a specific volume, frequency and resonance, the very good command over Sanskrit language, correct pronunciations, an ideal environment and a very strong spiritual and meditative personality (yogi) as well as many other rules and regulations which is not possible by an ordinary person. If someone chant a mantra in a wrong way then he/she may lost the power of Yantra or may have the negative effects. You just have to follow the above given guidelines. But you may chant the mantras, if you are doing spiritual practice and have good knowledge of Sanskrit Language. Where in a room should one place the Yantra? The Yantra has to be placed in the north/north-west direction facing south/south-east direction in a room with some exceptions:- The Vaastu Yantra, which is supposed to be placed in the south-west corner of the house, facing north-east. The Sri Yantra, which is supposed to be placed in the east, facing west. The Kuber Yantra, which is to be placed in the north facing south or east facing west. How can one use more then one Yantras at a time? When you want to use more then one Yantras, it is advised that a Kuber Yantra should be on the left-hand side when we look at the Yantras. The Sri Yantra should be in the exact center of the group. If an altar has only the Sri Yantra and a Kuber Yantra, then the Sri Yantra should be to the right-hand side of Lord Kuber when we stand or in front of them. A Ganesha Yantra should always be placed at the extreme right side of any group of Yantras.
Shri Yantras Effect
Shri Yantra is a multi purpose Yantra and used for good luck as well as to attract wealth, fame, authority, prosperity and mental peace. More about Shri Yantra: Shri Yantra remove all the negative vibrations and add positive cosmic energies into our environment. It is beneficial for almost everybody and must be used by everyone. The yantra pick up particular cosmic ray wave emitted by the planets and other universal objects and transform them into constructive vibrations. These are then transmitted to the surroundings where the Shri Yantra is placed, thus destroying all destructive forces within the vicinity. Energizing: The Shri Yantra is the one of the most ancient and powerful Yantras of "Shri Lalita Tripura Sundari", the Goddess of wealth and prosperity. According to the Vedas it is reputed to give fulfillment of ambitions for power, financial gain and influence. These Shri Yantras are Pranapratishthit (Energized) by the Mantras of Goddess "Shri Lalita Tripura Sundari". Structures of Shri Yantra: Shri Yantras come in 2-dimensional(2D) and 3-dimensional(3D) structures. The Mandalas of Sri Yantras are made of 9 interlacing triangles - 4 upward representing the male principle and 5 downward representing the female principle. Together, they represent the non-static, vibrating, creative force of the universe. The point in the center or Bindu, represents the point of creative manifestation - the seed core behind time and space, Shiva and Shakti (male and female energies) united in bliss. Meditation on the bindu takes the devotee to another dimension beyond form and formlessness. The age-old science of Vaastu also recommends the presence of this potent yantra to protect one from Vaastu deficiencies and to create wealth and riches for the entire environment. The use of the Yantra ensures the blessings for an obstacle-free path towards success, fame and fortune.
Adequacy of Specific Yantras
The Rashivalayas Yantra operates in the same manner as that of the Samrat Yantra and has one sundial for each of the zodiac signs. Five of them (Gemini, Taurus, Cancer, Virgo and Leo) are at the back from north to south. Aries and Libra face them followed by Aquarius, Pisces, Capricorn, Scorpio and Sagittarius from north to south. It helps in taking readings the moment each zodiacal sign crosses the meridian. The Large Samrat Yantra is based on the same principle as that of the small one but in size it is 10 times larger and more accurate by 2 secs. The sundial is 27.4m high and is still used on the Guru Purnima (full moon day in the month of Jul/Aug) to forecast the onset of monsoon. The Dakshina Yantra is a wall is aligned along the north-south meridian. It is mainly used to observe the position and movement of the celestial bodies when they pass over the meridian.
The Disha Yantra has only one function and that is to point towards the north. The Unnathamsa Yantra is used to find the altitudes of the astral bodies. Observations can be made round the clock and the sunken steps help in taking readings from any portion of the dial. The Raj Yantra or the King of Instruments is used only once a year to calculate the Hindu calendar, the details of which are based on the Jaipur Standard. To do so a telescope is fixed over the central hole. A bar for sighting is then attached at the back of the instrument. The plain disk is used to record the sightings. The Observer’s Seat belonged to Maharaja Jai Singh and was used for observing the wonders of the sky and universe. The Narivalya Yantra is a sundial with two dials; one facing north when the sun is in the Northern Hemisphere (21 Mar-21 Sep) and the other facing south for the rest of the year.
The Dhruva Yantra helps in finding the position of the Pole Star at night and also those of the 12 zodiac signs. It is based on an entirely different system to what is used today for the same purpose. Traditionally, human breath, approximately of 6 secs was used as the standard unit of measurement. The Small Samrat Yantra is a triangular structure and has a large sundial with quadrants at the borders given in hours and minutes. The arc on the left displays the time from sunrise to midday and the one on the right from midday to sunset. The sundials have been constructed on Latitude 27°N and the reading can be adjusted to the Indian Standard Time (84°N) but that must be done according to the month and the solar position.

marriage of spirit and matter
In the first part of "Dance of Love" I tried to explain what is attachment and how Spirit is free. Now, this is on Black Holes. Astronomers and Cosmologist talk about Black Holes as enormous energy fields that are invisible and suck all discernible energy into this hole. These holes must be for a purpose, as all has a reason in the Universe. Inevitably we shall know why. What has Black Holes got to do with Love? Love is the final energy for all Creation. The feminine energies which are the Universal mind. It can manifest what ever you wish to manifest. Love is spontaneous, joyful and effervescent. So if we talk about the apposites, as we seem to live in a dualistic world, then Love would be sucked into a Black Holes of our conscious depressions. Why would we create Black Holes? Perhaps due to our feeling of separation from Spirit. Can we then have faith that Spirit is really complete and unshakable. Firm in it's commitment to life and living. The ultimate marriage of Spirit and Matter...........Shana
The Contour of the Yantra
Every YANTRA is closed in from the exterior by a line or a group of lines forming its perimeter. These margin lines have the function to maintain, contain and prevent the loss of the magical forces represented by the core structure of the YANTRA, usually the central dot. They have the function to increase its magical and subtle force. The core of the YANTRAis composed of one or several simple geometrical shapes :dots, lines, triangles, squares, circles and lotuses representing in The BINDU The dot, BINDU signifies the focalized energy and its intense concentration. A kind of energy deposit which can in turn radiate energy under other forms. The dot is usually surrounded by different surfaces, either a triangle, a hexagon, a circle etc. These forms depend on the characteristic of the deity or aspect represented by the YANTRA. The BINDU is symbolically considered to be SHIVA himself, the source of the whole creation. The Tiangle ,TRIKONA The triangle (TRIKONA) is the symbol of SHAKTI , the feminine energy or aspect of Creation. The triangle pointing down represents the YONI , the feminine sexual organ and the symbol of the supreme source of the Universe, and when the triangle is pointing upwards it signifies intense spiritual aspiration, thesublimation of one's nature into the most subtle planes and the element of fire AGNI TATTVA . The fire is always oriented upwards, thus the correlation with the upward triangle - SHIVA KONA. On the other hand, the downward pointing triangle signifies the element of water which always tends to flow and occupy the lowest possible position. This triangle is known as SHAKTI KONA .
The intersection of two geometric forms such as lines, triangles, circles, etc. represents forces that are even more intense than those generated by simple forms. This interpenetration indicates a high level in the interaction of the correspondent energies. The empty spaces generated by such combinations are described powerful fields of the forces emanating from the centeral point of the YANTRA. These very often represents MANTRAS in such spaces.YANTRA and MANTRA are complementary aspects of SHIVA and their use together is much more efficient than the use of one alone.
The Six Points Star,SHATKONAA typical combination often found in the graphical structure of a YANTRA is the superposition of two triangles, one pointing upwards and the other downwards, forming a star with six points SHATKONA, also known as Star of David. This form symbolically represents the union of PURUSHA the immovable masculine energy and PRAKRITI the moving femenine energy or SHIVA-SHAKTI, without which there could be no Creation. The Circle ,CHAKRA represents air VAYU TATTVA.A simple geometrical shape used in YANTRAS is the circle, representing the rotation, a movement closely linked to the shape of spiral which is fundamental in the Universal evolution. At the same time, the circle represents perfection and the blissful creative void. In the series of the five fundamental elements it represents air Vayu Tattva.. The Square, BHUPURA represents the element earth PRITHIVI TATTVABetween the simple geometry that compose YANTRAS there is also the sqaure BHUPURA. The square is usually the exterior limit of the YANTRA and symbolically, it represents the element earth Prithvi Tattva. The Lotus, PADMA expresses the absolute force of the Supreme Self. The lotus symbol or its petals is both a symbol of purity and variety, every lotus petal representing a distinct aspect. The inclusion of a lotus in a YANTRA represents freedom from multiple interference with the exterior. This expresses the absolute force of the Supreme Self. Every YANTRA starts from the center, often marked by a central dot (BINDU) and ends with the outer square. This represents the sense of universal evolution, starting from the subtlest and ending with the coarse, starting from "ether" and ending with "earth". Even though most of the times Yantras are composed of these simple geometrical shapes, sometimes we encounter other elements such as arrow points, tridents, swords, spikes included in the design of a YANTRA with the purpose of representing vectors and directions of action for the Yantric energies. A Yantra is a very complex instrument in the spiritual practice (Sadhana). It can calm and focus the activities of the mind, and by its positive suggestion it has a benefcial impact on the health and psychic well being of a person. As such Yantra alone represents nothing. Only when it is awakened by mental concentration and meditation will the process of Resonance appear and the benefical Universal Divine energies will manifest themselves in the subtle bodies. different ways the subtle energies.
